In the aftermath of the Kliff Kingsbury firing and Matt Wells' hiring, the Texas Tech football staff has completely flipped, and 100 percent of the faces on the coaching staff are new heading into the 2019 season.

Now, just weeks before the start of spring football, Texas Tech is replacing wide receiver coach Jovon Bouknight, who accepted a job for the same position at the University of Oregon.

Replacing Bouknight in Lubbock is a familiar name for most Red Raider fans: Joel Filani.

Filani has been at North Texas as a coach since 2016 after spending two seasons at Boise State and a season in Washington with Mike Leach at Washington State. Filani played as a Red Raider in the mid-2000s and was a two-time All-Big 12 performer.

As a professional, he was drafted by the Titans in the 6th round of the 2007 NFL draft and spent time with the Titans, Vikings, Seahawks and Buccaneers before playing in the AFL until 2011.

Filani inherits T.J. Vasher and a wealth of young talent on the receiving corps of Texas Tech as he joins the staff lead by offensive coordinator David Yost and head coach Matt Wells.
