In 2017 Texas Tech used the back of their helmet to honor former head coach Spike Dykes, and now with another legend passing in the 2018 off season the Texas Tech Red Raiders will be using that space on the helmet to honor Senor Sack himself, Gabe Rivera.

During his time at Texas Tech Rivera was dominant. He was named the Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 1983. For his dominance as a Red Raider, Rivera was inducted into the Texas Tech Ring of Honor in 2014. He also garnered College Football Hall of Fame induction in 2012 and made the SWC all-decade team for the 1980s.

In Rivera's career at Texas Tech he totaled   321 tackles, 34 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, 11 pass deflections and six fumble recoveries from his spot as the nose! Incredible. The defensive line at Texas Tech will now have a legend with them on the field as they try to out shine his accomplishments.
