Texas Tech Baseball Has Strong Showing in All-Big 12 Awards
Texas Tech baseball had a really good regular season, and that showed in the Big 12 Awards.
Red Raiders ace Brandon Birdsell was selected as the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, and Hudson White was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year. In total, 12 Red Raiders earned honors in the 2022 edition of the All-Big 12 Awards.
Brandon Birdsell finished the season with an 8-3 record and a 2.75 ERA in 72 innings on the year. He struck out 12 batters per nine innings with 96 strikeouts, good enough for second in the Big 12. He also finished with the second-best ERA and second most wins, holding opposing batters to the lowest average of any Big 12 starter.
Birdsell is the second Red Raider to win the award after Steven Gingery won it in 2017. Birdsell doubled up on honors with a spot on the All-Big 12 First Team with Jace Jung.
Hudson White hit .337 in Big 12 games while splitting time between catcher and 1st base. He's the sixth Texas Tech freshman to win the award, joining names like Josh Bard, Josh Jung and Gabe Holt. White was also named second-team All-Big 12 and listed on the Big 12 All-Freshman team.
Freshman Owen Washburn was named an honorable mention selection as well as to the Big 12 All-Freshman team. White and Washburn were unanimous selections for the all-freshman team. Mason Molina joined the pair on the All-Freshman team.
Joining Hudson White on the All-Big 12 Second Team are Cole Stillwell, Kurt Wilson, Easton Murrell and Andrew Morris. More Red Raiders showed up as Honorable Mentions: Derek Bridges, Ty Coleman, Parker Kelly and Owen Washburn.
