Texas Tech baseball had one of the best offenses in the Big 12. They averaged nearly 9 runs a game all year long. In their regional, Texas Tech lost 3-2 to Notre Dame in game one and 2-1 in game four to be eliminated.

In the two games the Red Raiders won, the offense still struggled. Never scoring more than three runs. The Red Raiders beat UNCG 2-0 and Georgia Southern 3-1 in between their losses to the Fighting Irish, but Texas Tech just couldn't find the big hit to close Notre Dame out.

In the opening game, around a six-hour rain delay, Texas Tech stranded 13 runners. It was more of the same in the Sunday night game as Notre Dame worked around several bases-loaded situations to strand Red Raiders like crazy. The game wasn't without drama, Texas Tech scored their only run of the game in the 8th inning with a Jace Jung hit off the wall that would have been a home run in most ballparks in America.

That made it 2-1. That pushed ND's starter out of the game. The next pitcher walked the bases loaded with two outs. A third pitcher in the inning left them loaded with a strikeout.

In the ninth inning, Texas Tech had a base hit by Parker Kelly, a walk by Cooper Swanson, and a hit by pitch by Cole Stillwell loading the bases with two outs again. This time, the All-American Jace Jung came up to bat. If it was a Hollywood script it couldn't have been written any better, but this one ended in heartbreak and not in movie magic.

The bats being ice cold will overshadow how great Texas Tech pitching was this weekend. Andrew Morris bounced back from a rough start in the rain delay game, to throw really well against Georgia Southern. Brandon Birdsell and the bullpen combined for a shutout against UNCG. Andrew Devine and Derek Bridges had multiple outings that were solid. Jamie Hitt, Brandon Beckel, Josh Sanders, Garret Crowley, and Devine did their jobs tonight against Notre Dame.

Texas Tech just couldn't score.

We'll do more in-depth looking at Texas Tech's roster later, but Stillwell, Washburn, Coleman, and Freshman of the Year Hudson White should bolster the lineup in 2023 with most of the arms beyond Birdsell and Morris available to return.

There's also a top 15 recruiting class on their way to Lubbock. Tim Tadlock will be back in Omaha soon.
