Texas Tech Baseball DOMINATES Preseason All-Big 12 Accolades
The Big 12 Conference announced their Preseason All-Big 12 choices for the upcoming season Wednesday morning.
It was a huge day for Texas Tech baseball, which led the way with five selections, followed by Baylor’s four. It was all headlined by a certain Red Raider third baseman, who was announced as a unanimous selection for Preseason Player of the Year.
This is just the latest preseason accolade for Josh Jung. He's been named to four preseason All-America first teams so far after a phenomenal sophomore campaign in which he led the Big 12 in several offensive categories, including batting, hits, and RBIs.
Texas Tech continued to dominate the award selections with the Preseason Newcomer of the Year in Arkansas transfer Bryce Bonnin.
Bonnin produced a 1-0 record in 11 appearances, while registering a 4.26 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched.
Why stop there? Texas Tech also has the Preseason Freshman of the Year in OF Max Marusak.
Marusak led Amarillo High with a .439 batting average, 61 runs, five homers and 54 stolen bases en route to multiple honors including a first team 5-A All-State selection.
Tim Tadlock's team also had pitchers Caleb Killian and Caleb Freeman selected to the Preseason All-Big 12 team, as well as first baseman Cameron Warren, third baseman Josh Jung and OF Gabe Holt.
The Big 12 preseason poll will be announced on Thursday, January 31, 2019. The Red Raiders will begin the season in Lubbock with Opening Day slated for Friday, Feb. 15, against Oregon at 2 p.m. Texas Tech will host the Ducks for a four-game set, Feb. 15-18, 2019.
