Law enforcement in Texas is reminding drivers what they are looking for most at the end of summer when pulling people over. It may seem easy for some, but sober driving is crucial when staying safe on the road and behind the wheel.

TxDOT's Warning to All Drivers

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) stated that just one bad decision can end summer fun in an instant.

In fact, there's a crash every 23 minutes that involves someone driving under the influence. This comes out to over 60 crashes a day, on average, and can seriously ruin the lives of loved ones and families alike.

As summer comes to a close and we head into the fall months, Texas law enforcement will ramp up security on roads and highways looking for signs of impaired drivers.

If you feel that you are unfit to drive, or even just a little tipsy, it's always a good idea to seek alternate ways to get home. These are human lives we're talking about, whether it's yours or someone else's.

2024 Texas Traffic Accident Stats

TxDOT provided some facts from summer 2024 in Texas:

  • 273 people were killed while 596 were seriously injured in DUI-related crashes
  • Labor Day weekend alone saw 327 DUI-related crashes, resulting in 10 deaths and 36 serious injuries
  • 24% of all traffic deaths during Labor Day period were DUI-related

Increased Law Enforcement in Texas

Due to the elevated risk, Texas cops will be increasing their presence on roads and highways from August 15 through September 1.

Driving sober is not only required by law, it also keeps you and others safe. You may feel fine and you may trust yourself when driving drunk or buzzed, which is all well and good, but choosing to drive under those circumstances is too much of a risk.
