Texas Speaker of the House Joe Straus: Our Budget Shows ‘Commitment to Education’

Joe Straus, Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, sat down with Chad Hasty to talk about many issues facing the state of Texas.

Hasty was broadcasting live from Representative John Frullo's office in the state capitol building in Austin. Speaker Straus and Hasty discussed budget issues, tax relief and other issues.

Asked about his priorities for the 84th Legislature, Straus said:

It's always been my philosophy that the budget, the budget is a priority. The budget is a statement of priorities of the state. And so I'm very happy to say that our House budget shows fiscal discipline, it shows a commitment to education, it shows a commitment to higher education, it shows a commitment to transportation. And so those are all core priorities and core functions of the state of Texas that I think are pretty adequately approached in the budgetary world.
