The Texas Rangers were ordered on Monday to begin investigating a meeting that was held in June between Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen, Rep. Dustin Burrows, and Michael Quinn Sullivan of Empower Texans.

Sullivan alleges he was offered media credentials in exchange for targeting 10 House Republicans in the upcoming primary season. Bonnen denied the accusations for over a week. Sullivan announced he secretly recorded the meeting and select lawmakers and activists who have since heard the audio confirmed Sullivan's story. Bonnen last week apologized to Texas House members for saying things that was embarrassed over.

On Monday the Texas House General Investigative Committee ordered the Texas Rangers to investigate the meeting and what happened during the meeting. The Rangers were ordered to report back to the committee once they had completed the investigation.
