On Tuesday evening it was announced that free agent catcher Robinson Chirinos and the Texas Rangers had agreed on a one-year $6.75 million contract.

Chirinos spent six seasons with the Rangers from 2013 to 2018. He was let go by the Rangers and signed with the Houston Astros for the 2019 season where he had one of his best years.

In 2019, Chirinos hit .238 in 114 games for the Astros. He tallied 17 home runs, 58 RBI and 51 walks in his only season for Houston. Compare that to the Rangers catcher in 2019, Jeff Mathis, who hit just .158 in 86 games last season, with two home runs and 12 RBI.

The Texas Rangers begin their season on the road against the Seattle Mariners in a four game series beginning on Thursday, March 29th.
