The Texas Department of Public Safety has announced a pilot program to extend the operating hours at four Texas Driver License offices until 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday through September 30th. The DL offices participating are the Fort Worth Mega Center, the Carrollton Mega Center, the Childress DL Office and the Plainview DL Office.

The extended hours will not include skill examinations and driving tests. Those will still need to be completed during normal business hours.

Along with the extended hours at the four selected DL offices, the Texas DPS reminds you that DL services are now offered by appointment only. After you schedule your appointment you will receive a confirmation email that you need to bring to the DL office. When you arrive you can check-in within 30 minutes of your appointment time.

Social distancing will be maintained and the DPS has committed to extensive measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 including mandatory facemasks for staff members and customers who are taking a driving test. Staff and customers will also be screened for symptoms prior to entering the DL office.

If you do not pass the safety screening you will need to reschedule your appointment.

Only actual customers will be allowed into the offices with the following exceptions, persons needing ADA accommodations; elderly persons; parents with small children; and parents and legal guardians needed to complete a transaction.

The DPS staff will also sanitize between each transaction and eye examinations will no longer require physical contact with the eye testing machine.

Finally, you must pay with a credit card, check, or money order. The DPS will no longer accept cash payments at this time.
