Lubbock's only drive-in theater will show their first movie in nearly two months.

Stars and Stripes Drive-in Theater reopened on Friday, May 1st, more than one month after a City of Lubbock declaration of disaster shuttered nonessential businesses.

The reopening follows Texas governor Greg Abbott's executive order, which allows malls, many retail stores and movie theaters to reopen, provided they follow specific safety guidelines, including social distancing between guests and only allowing 25 percent of customers at one time.

The drive-in theater posted their revised schedule and safety guidelines on Instagram:

Movies and showtimes can be found at their website.

Stars and Stripes had announced before that declaration that it would "temporarily close to abide by the new Coronavirus (COVID-19) 2019 guidelines from the CDC to keep our team, guests, and community safe."

Other major theater chains in Lubbock and across the U.S., however, are holding off for now on reopening.

Alamo Drafthouse quickly let customers know they wouldn't reopen on May 1st despite Governor Abbott's executive order allowing movie theaters to do so, albeit at a reduced capacity and with other guidelines in place. Cinemark and Premiere have likewise said they are not yet reopening.
