South Plains Fair Set To Open This Week in Lubbock, What You Need to Know
It's time to get ready for corn dogs, funnel cakes, turkey legs, and of course rides. The Panhandle South Plains Fair is back in Lubbock for another year and it all starts with Buck-A-Ride Night on Tuesday.
The Panhandle South Plains Fair Is Fun For Everyone
The South Plains Fair is celebrating its 108th year and when you head out to the fair, you just know you are going to have a good time. Whether you are going to look at livestock, vendors, riding rides, playing games, or of course eating food, the fair has a little something for everyone.
Last year during the fair, we were there in time to catch the Swifty Swine Racing Pigs. It's one the free attractions, and it was fun to watch. There is also the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack show throughout the week.
For a full list of shows and attractions, visit the Fair's website.
The 2025 South Plains Fair opens on Thursday evening for what is called Buck-A-Ride night. All rides are $1 and the gates are open 6:00pm to 11pm. Most years, only rides and food vendors are open on Buck-A-Ride Night.
South Plains Fair Prices, Rules, Times of Operation
The fair officially opens on Friday, September 19 and runs through the 27th. A clear bag policy is in place and those bags must be no larger than12x6x12.
Here's how much it cost to get in.
- 13 years and up $10
- 2-12 years $5
- 1 and under no charge
Parking will cost you $5.
The fair is open Monday through Friday 1:00pm to 11pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to through 11pm.
If you go before 1pm on the weekdays, it's free to get in for lunch.
Fair Food Is a Must-Get
No trip to the fair is complete without getting some food. And there are always a ton of choices, and what I love about the South Plains Fair is that the food vendors are non-profit groups raising money for their organizations.

My first stop every year? The Dream Center foot-long corn dog stand in the heart of the fair. Last year I also had the fried cheese on a stick and even took home a turkey leg.
