On Thursday's edition of Lubbock's First News on KFYO, Sondra Ziegler came by the studio to make her official announcement that she will be running for Republican Nomination for District 83 in the Texas House of Representatives.

Ziegler had not announced this for the last few weeks because she wanted to get more time to visit with the county chairmen.

"I'm passionate about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," Ziegler explained. "The power of liberty in our personal lives, in business, the power of free markets... when people have liberty, they make much better decisions about what to do with resources, what to do in their families, how to solve problems in their communities than governments do, typically."

When asked why she wants to represent district 83, she said "I think that a district as red as District 83 needs to send a fighter to Austin."

The first goal Ziegler would work to achieve would be trying to get Scott Turner elected to Speaker of the House. "He really is someone who I believe can unite republicans," she stated. "Right now, like I said, it is easier for a democrat to get legislation to the floor of the house than it is for a republican, and that has got to change."
