The City of Slaton has completed their plan to transfer their emergency dispatch services. Slaton was the only city in Lubbock County to have its own dispatch service until it was decided by city commissioners to transfer to the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office dispatch services.

This transfer will save the already financially struggling City of Slaton $150,000 a year and will not negatively impact the community as a whole. The only downside to this transition is that two people did lose their jobs but some employees will staff the Slaton Police Department and the non-emergency line. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. are the usual hours for the Slaton Police Department and with the switch after hours calls will be transferred to the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office.

The transfer from the Slaton dispatch services to the Lubbock County Sheriff's dispatch services officially kicked off on October 1. There have been some small issues that dispatch services have had to work through since the transfer since the services are still new. The transfer of dispatch services is expected to increase the relationship between the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office and the city of Slaton community.
