Lubbock ISD trustees hired three new employees today to replace retirees. Karen Bayer will be the new principal at Mackenzie Middle School and Mary McGann will be the new principal at Rush Elementary. Bayer is currently the principal at Roosevelt Elementary. John Ramos will assume the role as director of human resources for quadrants I and II. He returns to LISD after working as middle school principal in Lamesa. He has coached and taught English at Lubbock High School.

The student code of conduct has been amended for LISD students. In the meeting today an amendment was approved to prohibit the student use of cell phones during the school day for elementary students. Secondary students are only allowed to use cell phones during their lunch break.

Also during the meeting today $1.7 million was awarded to the expansion project at Centennial Elementary. Construction will begin late this summer and will last until 2012. The funds come from the voter-approved 2010 Bond. The expansion was deemed necessary due to residential growth in the area.
