Scott Braddock: Massive Teacher Retirements A Possibility In Texas [INTERVIEW]
Monday on The Chad Hasty Show, Scott Braddock, editor of QuorumReport.com, joined the show to talk about the coronavirus crisis in Texas, the reopening of Texas schools, the Trump reelection campaign, and much more.
Braddock said, while speaking about some of Governor Greg Abbott's actions and executive orders during the crisis,
The closures of bars around the state, [Governor Abbott] was criticized for that, although that's one of the things that he later said he was regretful about. One of the few mistakes he said he made was opening the bars when he did, and still, you have a lot of those businesses, I think as you have pointed out many times Chad, they have no idea what the plan is going forward, and they're just sort of in limbo. It seems very unfair to them.
During the discussion about the various debates surrounding the reopening of Texas schools, and the teachers who are very nervous about being exposed to the virus, Braddock said,
I've heard from a lot of teachers who say they're in in this position...they're sort of quietly talking about it amongst their families and their close friends, about whether they should avoid exposure to coronavirus in a classroom by going ahead and taking retirement. Chad, just the numbers here: There are 363,000 or so teachers all across our more than 1,000 school districts in Texas. Of those, about 36 percent, about 130,000 could turn in their paperwork today [and] go ahead and take their retirement.
