Thirty-year-old James Arthur Smiley II has ben arrested after police say that he attempted to run over another man following a confrontation in South Lubbock.

On Sunday, October 25th, and officer was called to a home in the 6200 block of Louisville Drive after reports of a crash between two vehicles.

Police arrived on the scene at around 10 a.m. and found the victim, unidentified, who gave his recap of what occurred.

The victim said he was leaving the Taco Villa in the 8000 block of Indiana Avenue and pulled out into the center turn lane to go north. Then, he told police Smiley pulled directly in front of his vehicle, blocking him in.

The two began arguing, and after the victim said "you must be one of those crazy Trump supporters," Smiley took off northbound on Indiana.

The victim looked back and said that Smiley was chasing him.

The victim continue to Loop 289 where he went onto the eastbound service road towards University. He then went on the turnaround to head back westbound and exited on Indiana.

KAMC News reports the victim eventually got to his parent's home in the 6200 block of Louisville Drive with Smiley still behind him.

It's said that Smiley intentionally ran into the victim's driver's side. The victim then got out of his vehicle and stood next to it. The victim says Smiley backed up and accelerate towards him.

The victim was able to jump out of the way.

Smiley was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and as of Wednesday, October 28th, remained in the Lubbock County Detention Center.
