A police officer in Texas was responding to a traffic stop when the suspect trapped the officer in the car door and continued to drive, eventually leading to the officer breaking loose and flying to the ground.

According to WFAA, a Corsicana police officer, Sgt. Dan McAninch, made a routine traffic stop and pulled over a vehicle into a gas station parking lot.

McAninch eventually called for backup after observing some shady behavior from the driver of the vehicle. Eventually, a second officer, Tommy Ordonez, arrived to the scene.

Here's where the fun part happens...

As Ordonez was exiting his patrol car, the driving suspect quickly hopped back into his own vehicle. McAninch, noticing that the suspect was planning on escaping, reached to open the driver-side door. This sparked a struggle between the two men that ended with the suspect stomping the gas pedal.

BANG!

The car drove straight into Ordonez's patrol vehicle. Luckily, Ordonez was able to move out of the way in time before being squished between the two vehicles.

While this was happening, McAninch is still begin dragged along by the driver-side door like a cat caught in a plastic bag.

McAninch was finally able to be released after the suspect reversed his car, throwing the sergeant to the ground near the gas pumps, injuring him in the process.

WFAA continued by saying that the suspect then fled the scene, sparking a brief 90 mph high-speed chase which ended with his arrest once he parked in front a private residence.

The suspect was then slapped with a laundry list of charges:

  • 2 counts of aggravated assault against a public servant
  • 2 counts of criminal mischief
  • DWI
  • Resisting arrest
  • Evading arrest with a motor vehicle
