A Lubbock man was arrested after it's said he accidentally shot his father in the leg.

KAMC News reports that Lubbock Police responded to reports of shots fired in the 3400 block of 33rd Street. There, officers found the suspect, John Carrasco, who said that his father had accidentally shot himself in the leg. He claims that afterwards he went outside and threw the gun on top of the carport because he was a felon.

Carrasco's father was transported to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. There, he told officers that it was actually Carrasco who shot him in the leg. He said that the gun went off as he was trying to it apart.

One of the father's friends said that Carrasco wasn't even supposed to be there in the first place. Apparently a restraining order was placed on him.

Carrasco was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm. It's currently unknown whether or not his father will be pressing charges.
