Texas Tech football announced today that the Red Raiders will open the 2021 Football season with three straight games kicking off at 6:00 p.m.. Game one will be in Houston at NRG Stadium against the Cougars on September 4th broadcast nationally on ESPN.

The next two games will also be at 6:00 p.m. against Stephen F. Austin on September 11th and Florida International University on September 18th. Both games will be on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.

Now, there are some cons here, the ESPN+ part can be argued either way. It's definitely the third tier availability for having your games on TV, but if the games were being aired on FS1, which was the equivalent to ESPN+ the last two seasons, then you'd probably be playing at 11:00 a.m..

That's it. That's the only con, and it's not even really a con. I complain about the announcers in any game, so it's not like the c-team they get to call the game on ESPN+ will make me any more upset than Steve Levy who is a hack and calls games for ESPN.

No offense to Steve Levy.

The score bug might get a little wonky at times, but that happens on any network nowadays with more and more layoffs and fewer and fewer people actually working on the broadcast. Now, if they make studio hosts call the ESPN+ games in 2021, then we'll have a serious gripe.

The pros seriously outweigh the cons here in my opinion. The main being that the return of tailgating will be huge for the games against Florida International and SFA. Way better than the 11:00 a.m. slogs that Texas Tech fans have had to suffer through. The sun will also not be as terrible during the game, as opposed to the 3:00 p.m. beatdowns that Texas Tech has had to endure the past several seasons.

This isn't the first time that Texas Tech has started the season with three straight night games. In fact, Texas Tech started 2016 with five straight night games including a primetime smiting of SFA in Lubbock to open the season. For what it's worth, All five of those games came on second-tier or lower stations FSN, FS1, and ESPNU.

Another pro? They'll start the season with a win on ESPN in primetime against Houston. Which reminds me, hammer the over on Texas Tech's win total at 4.5. Here's why I am:
