Peter Flores: How Democrats Lost Senate Seat To GOP After 139 Years [INTERVIEW]
On Friday's edition of The Chad Hasty Show, Texas State Senator Peter Flores (R) joined Chad in the KFYO studio to talk about his historic win in District 19, and the current state of politics and government in Texas.
Flores, a conservative Republican, recently won the District 19 Senate seat that has been occupied by a Democrat for 139 years, shocking the world of politics in the state.
Flores shared the reasons why he won, and what message was being sent by the voters in Texas. Flores said of his philosophy about government service and getting the state government back on a more conservative track,
You hear people say, 'What about the system? That's going to upset the system.' Well I wasn't elected to represent the system, I was elected to represent my constituents, the people. And we remember where power comes from, and that's from the people, and not from the system. The legislature created these laws, and the legislature can un-create these laws, and that's the beauty of our constitutional republic and the process. Sometimes you have to remind folks, and voters did by electing folks like myself, that we're here to serve, and not be served, and who the bosses are. And the bosses right now are saying 'Woah.' And so it's time to go to work, and remind the system and special interests that we're not there for them, we're there for the people.
