One Person Causes Multiple Crashes and Injuries in Lubbock Pursuit

In a police chase that happened in Lubbock on Tuesday, March 16th, multiple people were injured.

It all began when an LPD officer attempted to stop a Chevrolet Lumina, driven by 26-year-old Kayon Kinney near Parkway Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. It's said that Kinney evaded the officer, which began the pursuit.

As they approached South Loop 289 and University Avenue, the officers called off the pursuit for public safety concerns.

The Lumina, however, continued to travel in the westbound access road in the 2400 block of the South Loop. Reports say the Lumina disregarded a red light and struck a Ford Taurus, driven by 60-year-old Lucille Whitefield. The Taurus then struck a Ford F-150, which was driven by 43-year-old Nicholas Espedal.

Police then say Kinney failed to stop and render aid and fled southbound on University.

Whitefield was transported to University Medical Center with minor injuries. Espedal also suffered minor injuries but was not transported.

Afterwards, the Lumina was located by Lubbock County Sheriff's Office deputies in the 3300 block of 98th Street. As the chase approached the 9800 block of Indiana Avenue, the Lumina disregarded another red light and struck a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 59-year-old Dwain Mitchell. The Silverado then struck a Toyota Yaris, driven by 27-year-old Jaime Thompson.

Mitchell was uninjured, but Thompson suffered minor injuries.

Kinney was then taken into custody and transported to University Medical Center for minor injuries.
