The good news keeps coming for Lubbock in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic. It was announced this week that trauma area B, which includes Lubbock, has seen the hospitalization rate fall below 15% of coronavirus patients which means bars can re-open and businesses that were capped at 50% capacity can now expand to 75%.

It was also announced this week that United Supermarkets would start administering the COVID vaccine and so would some CVS locations.

On Wednesday evening, the Lubbock Health Department announced that so far, it's department had vaccinated 23,543 individuals with their first shot. 3,346 people have gotten their second dose already with more on the way. Here's how the number of vaccinations break down since December of 2020.

  • December 2020 - 2,086 vaccinations administered to those in Phases 1A and 1B
  • January 2021 - 20,347 vaccinations: 18,007 first doses, 2,340 second doses
  • February 2, 2021 - 2,457 vaccinations: 1,821 first doses; 636 second doses
  • February 3, 2021 - 1,999 vaccinations: 1,629 first doses; 370 second doses

Expect those numbers to continue to rise as more vaccine becomes available and more places are able to administer the shot. The clinics at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center have run smooth and as long as people show up during their appointment time, there have been few issues.

The City of Lubbock Health Department did remind citizens earlier on Wednesday that citizens need to call or make an appointment online for their second dose of the vaccine. The date on the back of someone's vaccine card is not an appointment time. Instead it's to alert you when you can make an appointment for. You can get those details from this KFYO News story.
