Tuesday on The Chad Hasty Show Republican strategist and Travis County Republican Party Chairman Matt Mackowiak joined the show to talk about the latest news in Texas, as well as national topics that may have major impact on the state of Texas.

Mackowiak and Hasty discussed recent statements made by Dennis Bonnen, Texas Speaker of the House, regarding Bonnen's strategy for keeping peace between House members of both parties, apparently disregarding the possibly dire consequences for the GOP in Texas, and the state as a whole. Bonnen has warned Texas House members, Republicans and Democrats that they are not to campaign against each other in upcoming elections and warned of political retribution if they did.

When Hasty asked Mackowiak about the comments by Speaker Bonnen and his involvement or lack thereof in the upcoming election season, Mackowiak said during his response,

It's one thing to want to evaluate what they do legislatively, it's another to evaluate what they do politically...It is possible we could lose the house in 2020. Have a Democratic speaker of the house for the first time since 2002...The question that needs to be put to the Speaker is, are you content, are you satisfied with Republicans losing seventeen seats in the last two election cycles, and if not what are you prepared to do about it?

Mackowiak continued, saying,

If he's not willing to flip Democratic seats, then to me, he's not serving in the role that he should be serving in as the leader of the Republican Party of Texas.

Also in the discussion was the hot topic of President Trump's threatened trade tariffs on goods entering the United States, in response to Mexico's inaction on illegal immigration into the U.S.
