On Tuesday's edition of The Chad Hasty Show, Republican strategist Matt Mackowiak joined the program to discuss the latest in Texas politics and news.

Mackowiak and Hasty talked about the Texas Republican Party convention and Allen West's election as Chairman of the party, as well as MJ Hegar's bid to take Senator John Cornyn's seat in the U.S. Senate.

While talking about Senator Cornyn's style, and his standing in the state of Texas Mackowiak said,

He's running a good campaign. He has a solid record to run on of actual competence in the Senate, he worked really hard. I admire John Cornyn, I'm proud to say that. Is he Ted Cruz? No. They're different politicians. Cruz is much stronger in a primary in Texas, and Cornyn, I think, is much stronger in a general election. Which is why first tier candidates on the democratic side, it's a short list in Texas, but the Julian Castros, the Joaquin Castros, the Beto O'Rourkes passed on running against Cornyn. And it's not because they don't think they can flip Texas in the near future, it's because they didn't think Cornyn is beatable. Which is why the democrats are stuck with a woman running as their nominee who lost the congressional race last year, or two years ago.
