A would-be thief at a Lubbock supermarket struck an off-duty state trooper last night after she confronted him for leaving the store without paying for what he had gotten from the shelves. The officer escorted the man back into the United Supermarket at 4th and Slide Road, but he hit her in the face with a canned item and then ran off.  Trooper Katrina Jones may have suffered a broken nose. Lubbock police are looking for a suspect described as a Hispanic in his teens to early 20s, about 5 feet 7 and 180 pounds, and wearing a black cap, red shorts and black sneakers. Anyone with information about the man is urged to call Crime Line at 741-1000.
