Indiana Man Admits He Failed to Register as Sex Offender Twice

A man that was convicted of rape in Indiana back in 2012 was arrested in Lubbock, Texas for failing to register as a sex offender for the second time.

Back in 2012, now 40-year-old Casey Samuel Thomas was convicted of rape in Indiana. KAMC News reports that as part of his sentence, he was required to register as a sex offender for life.

After being released from prison, Thomas traveled to Lubbock, but in October 2018, law enforcement discovered he had not registered as a sex offender or updated his registration. By February of 2019, law enforcement found that he still hadn't registered.

Thomas admitted to knowing he couldn't move to Texas without updating his registration and pleaded guilty to failure to register as a sex offender in July 2019. He was sentenced to a little under 2 years in prison and 5 years of supervised release.

Thomas was released from a federal correctional facility in Colorado in September 2020 and again traveled to Lubbock. He was told to report to a re-entry charity after he arrived, but he failed to do so. He was arrested once again in March 2021 and admitted that he hadn't registered as a sex offender upon arriving in Texas.

Thomas now faces a maximum sentence of 10 years and a possible $250,000 fine.
