Lubbock Woman Convicted of Fraud
A federal jury has convicted a Lubbock woman of fraud for cashing a check not intended for her. 39-year-old Octavia Anderson was convicted after less than 20 minutes of deliberation.
Anderson received, in error, a check from Lee Land & Cattle for $12,000. Instead of forwarding the check to the proper recipient, Anderson and co-defendant Vickie Tello took the check and cashed it. Tello plead guilty in January to obscuring mail, and faces up to six months in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Anderson faces up to 10 years and a $250,000 fine, and could be ordered to pay restitution. Anderson will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report.
