Lubbock Suspect Arrested in 21-Year-Old’s Shooting Death
The accused murderer has been revealed for the shooting death of a 21-year-old in Lubbock.
The Arrest of Sergio De La Cerda
Sergio De La Cerda, 24, was arrested over the weekend and charged with the murder of 21-year-old Jaydon Garcia. During an alleged argument, Garcia was taken to University Medical Center with a bullet wound where he later died.
Everything Lubbock reports that De La Cerda joined some friends and family at a local bar on Sunday. Court records state that there were no signs of conflicts during the event. That is until they left the establishment.
After the bar closed, the group departed to a house owned by one of their family members. A witness that was in the group stated that it started with a verbal altercation between Garcia and a separate individual. The argument soon took to the street.
The verbal conflict, reportedly involving family issues, ended when others attempted to direct Garcia into his vehicle. This was when a loud pop was heard, and Garcia was shot.
The witness in the group told police that they believed De La Cerda was the shooter, but that they did not see a gun in his hands during the argument, Everything Lubbock reported.
However, De La Cerda was seen putting something back into his pocket that looked similar to a gun.
When the witness called De La Cerda after the incident and asked why he shot Garcia, De La Cerda reportedly told him it was because Garcia said he was going to "put him 10 feet deep."
Sergio De La Cerda is currently being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond and a murder charge.
