A central Lubbock post office now bears the name of a fallen soldier from Lubbock.

The U.S. Post Office at 5014 Gary Avenue has been officially dedicated as the Sergeant Chris Davis Post Office, following a Friday afternoon ceremony.

Sgt. Davis, a Lubbock native, was killed in action near Baghdad on June 23rd, 2007. He served in the Army with the 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment stationed out of Fort Benning, Georgia. His unit was attacked by insurgents using an improvised explosive device and small arms fire. Sgt. Davis was 35 years old, and left behind a wife and two children.

“Today marks the end of a long process to honor and celebrate the life of one of Lubbock’s fallen sons,” said U.S. Congressman Randy Neugebauer, who authored the bill naming the former Monterey Station Post Office for Sgt. Davis. “Sergeant Davis served his country with pride and honor, and will be remembered by all who knew him.”
