Lubbock Massage Parlor Targeted in Statewide Human Trafficking Crackdown
A massage parlor in Lubbock recently gained the attention from state authorities after the owner was found to be guilty of multiple violations, including signs of human trafficking.
Lubbock Massage Parlor Shut Down, Among Others
Best Foot Spa, located at 7412 S. University Ave., Suite #2 in Lubbock was listed among the string of locations shut down after investigators found activity that may be linked to human trafficking.
The owner of this and multiple other establishments played a key role in the investigations.
Other massage locations that were temporarily shut down include the following:
- Sunny Massage in Midland, TX
- Julie's Massage in Cleburne, TX
- Tongfuxin LLC Pattaya Massage in Kerrville, TX
- Pattaya Foot Reflexology in Odessa, TX
- Thai Massage in Odessa, TX
- Family Reflexology -- two locations in Amarillo, TX
The main reason for the closure of this Lubbock location include the discovery of multiple violations, such as use of unlicensed employees, individuals who lived at the business, and ads that elicited sexual services offered by the company.
All eight locations were temporarily shut down by the Texas Department of License and Regulation (TDLR). During the investigation, the Lubbock location remains open yet under new management.
TDLR's Efforts Throughout Texas
According to the department's press release on the matter, this government entity has revoked 110 licenses since the beginning of this year. They also issued more than $113,000 in penalties as a result.
They claim that the efforts taken in shutting down and investigating suspicious businesses like massage parlors, tow truck companies, and even barber shops are fueled by the assertion that the health and safety of customers are not a top priority.
You can learn more about the investigation from the TDLR information page as well as how they conduct their investigations for a variety of reasons statewide.
