Lubbock Man Arrested for Stabbing; Claims Self-Defense
65-year-old Willie Mays Sanders was arrested on Thursday, July 16th for aggravated assault after a confrontation escalated to a stabbing.
KAMC News reports that at around 10:07 p.m., Lubbock Police responded to a corner store and located a man sitting at the entrance in a puddle of blood.
Reports say that the a woman went over to Sanders' house to confront him about stealing a bicycle. Sanders claims the victim pulled a knife on him, which led to Sanders pulling his own out to defend himself.
The victim confirmed that they went over to confront Sanders about the bicycle, but nothing was said about them pulling out a knife first.
The victim says they walked over to the corner store where Sanders followed him, but later ran away. Witnesses say the victim was walking up to the store when Sanders came behind them and tried to stab them again. A man leaving the store also says Sanders tried to stab him.
Sanders remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault.
