In a meeting this morning, the Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees authorized the demolition of two buildings, and approved the use of grant funds for several academic improvements.

The demolition of Stubbs Early Childhood Center and a building that formally served as Calvary Baptist church were both approved to make way for an extended Lubbock High Cafeteria and additional parking.

Grant funds were also appropriated for purchasing four portable buildings. The district intends to eventually phase out several older portable buildings currently being used.

Several positions were also filled. Berta Fogerson was named principal of the Margaret Talkington School for Young Women Leaders. She is currently the assistant superintendent in Lubbock Cooper ISD. Estacado assistant principal Lori Andrus will now be the principal at Parkway elementary. Assistant principal of Hodges Elementary Ruby Jackson will also be promoted to Principal.

Additionally, Amador Vasquez will replace retired Pam Summers as the mathematics coordinator. He comes to LISD from the Region 1 Education Service Center in Edinburg.
