Attention Lubbock Parents, This Car Seat Checkup Event is for You
It's Child Passenger Safety Week, and if you live in Lubbock and have children, then you need to listen up. The fate of your child's safety may depend on it.
Okay, maybe it's not that serious, but you should still know about this event! The Texas Department of Transportation is hosting a free car seat checkup event right here in town, and all parents are invited.
The Who, When, and Where
Safety partners with the Texas Department of Transportation will be here in town Wednesday, September 23 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Parents should arrive at 12111 County Road 2500 with several things.
First, please arrive with your child. It'll be pretty awkward if you skip this step. You should also come with your current car seat that you use. This way the certified technicians can check to make sure you are properly using it every day.

Common Car Seat Mistakes from Parents
You see, common issues that new parents run into when driving is improperly installing their child's car seat and picking a seat that's the wrong size.
As a result, here are some other quick tips and facts that all parents need to know in Texas:
- Seat belts should be worn on the pelvic area and shoulders where needed, never around the neck or abdomen
- Texas law requires all children under 8 years old, unless taller than 4 feet 9 inches, to ride in a car seat
- Children older than 8 years old must wear seatbelts
Failure to have your child properly restrained can actually lead to a $250 fine, so listen up.
If you can't make the event this week, then you can visit the child passenger safety webpage from TxDOT to see what sizes are best for you and the proper way to buckle your children into their car seat.
