The City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department will participate in a statewide observance.

New trees will be planted Friday morning, April 26th, at Lubbock’s Quest Memorial Grove at the Buddy Holly Recreation Area as part of the “Trees across Texas” Ceremony.

Lubbock will be exchanging trees from the north Texas town of Rockwall for this year’s festivities.

District 3 Councilman Todd Klein is presiding over this year’s observance with former City Councilman T.J. Patterson.

Patterson and Dr. Gene Quest created the Trees Across Texas program in 2000 and every year the City of Lubbock has a symbolic exchanging of trees with another city in Texas.

Each city will plant a tree indigenous to the habitat of the partnering city. Lubbock will plant a Cedar Elm tree in the Quest Memorial Grove.
