A Lubbock Police Officer Is a Finalist for Police Officer of the Year Award
Thomas Thompson, a Lubbock police officer, was one of four finalists for the 2019 International Association of Chiefs of Police/Target Award.
Thompson was introduced on stage by President Donald Trump during the IACP conference in Chicago.
Officer Thompson responded to a robbery in progress at a local game room back in August 2018. KAMC News reports that Thompson confronted one of the armed suspects, who pointed a gun at him. Thompson fell backwards but opened fire, injuring the armed suspect.
Thompson noticed a second suspect flee and alerted a backup officer while disarming the injured suspect.
IACP states that Thompson's actions are what lead to the loss of no lives during this robbery.

Border Patrol Agent Jonathon Morales from the US Customs and Border Protection went on to win the Police Chief of the Year Award.
