Following the posting of a Facebook video depicting lifeless dogs in cages and others living in unsanitary conditions, the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office has opened an investigation.

The woman being accused has not been named, but KAMC News reports she owns a grooming salon in Lubbock County. Multiple people have said that their dogs under the woman's care have died or are not accounted for.

One person, Sue Talkington, said that the woman has not presented her dog or told her where it is after being asked repeatedly over text.

Some of the deaths of these dogs is being blamed on a pit bull entering the yard in July 2020 and killing a kennel full of poodles. However, Melissa Heatherly, who previously worked with the woman, drove from Alabama to see what was going on. She said that she didn't see anywhere that a pit bull could've gotten in and the dogs were in separate cages. Some believe that the dogs actually died due to overheating.

Heatherly believed she had the right to enter the property, so she did so and noted hundreds of empty beer cans and cigarette butts on top of multiple dogs that were severely matted and covered in fecal matter. She's the one who captured the video mentioned in the beginning of this article.

When officers searched the residence, they noted there was water and food for the dogs and didn't find any dead dogs.

The Lubbock District Attorney's Office says that while this case is "tragic and unacceptable," the video depicting unsanitary conditions was obtained by "illegal entry onto private property by a private citizen." Therefore, this evidence could not be used.

No charges have been filed at this time.
