Wednesday on Lubbock's First News, Harvey Hilderbran, candidate for Texas Comptroller, spoke about his campaign.

Hilderbran represents District 53 in the Texas House of Representative. He is the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, which works with legislation related to Texas tax code, and works on the State Affairs Committee.

The office of State Comptroller acts as the treasurer to the state. Hildebran passed welfare, nursing home, and parks reform over the past couple decades. More recently, he passed tax reform. He said, "I've been a fighter for reform issues, conservative reform."
He said he has a focus on support for small businesses through tax reform.

Since Hildebran oversaw the office during his time as Chairman of the House Way and Means Committee. This, Hildebran says, gives him the advantage:

"I'm in a position to know what's working. I know what needs to be continued, like transparency initiatives. I want to expand and extend that to other agencies. I've learned what's not working. There are a number of things that need to be improved and things that are downright broken that need to be fixed."
