Texans love their Sweet Tea. Sure, sweet iced tea has its detractors and some people who don't live in Texas may hate the idea of sweet tea, but we love it here in Texas. When you order iced tea at a restaurant in Texas, there is a good chance the server will ask, "sweet or unsweet?", that is something I haven't experienced anywhere else.

Texans also know that governments are looking to increase ways they get money from citizens. Whether it's in the form of taxes or fees. Often time these are masked as ways to promote health when it is really just a money grab.

On Monday, the Texas Comptroller's Office took to X (formally Twitter) to announce a bold, new plan for the state. A new tax on sweet iced tea. The goal according to the Texas Comptroller's office? To promote healthier lifestyles.

Of course Monday was April Fool's Day and when it comes to anything announced on April 1 on the internet, it's good to double or triple check it to make sure it's real.

And of course, it's not real. Texas is not imposing a new tax on sweet tea. As I pointed out on X though, somewhere in Texas, a city official is reading the post and wondering if they can impose a tax on sweet tea and they might be making plans to do it!

Among the political jokes on X on Monday, this may have been one of the best. Good job to whoever came up with the post.
