A shocking attack was carried out against a Republican elected official in Denton, Texas on Monday. The attack left one person injured, and another person dead.

The Lewisville Police Department is investigating a double stabbing at the home of Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell and her husband, Fred, on Monday. The attack left Commissioner Mitchell injured, and her husband dead according to FOX4News.

Denton County Commissioner and Husband Stabbed

According to FOX 4, police were called to the home just before 4am. Police has gotten a call about an assault in the 1000 block of Springwood Drive in Lewisville. When police arrived they saw that both Commissioner Mitchell and her husband had been stabbed.

FOX 4 reported that the suspect, the grandson of the couple, was still on location.

Commissioner Mitchell underwent surgery for her wounds and is expected to recover.

Suspect in Attack on Texas Commissioner Arrested

23-year-old Mitchell Blake Reinacher lived at the home with his grandparents. Police are still searching for a motive. He was taken into custody without incident according to FOX 4. He faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. According to FOX 4, he is being held on a $600,000 bond.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott reacted to the attack:

"Cecilia and I are heartbroken to hear of the passing of Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell’s husband, Fred Mitchell, after they were brutally attacked in their home this morning. I thank the Lewisville Police Department and other first responders for their quick response and for rushing Commissioner Mitchell to the hospital. Cecilia and I pray for Commissioner Mitchell as she recovers from her injuries and for Fred Mitchell's family and loved ones as they mourn his death."
