Tuesday on The Chad Hasty Show, Dr. Benjamin Powell and Dr. Walter E. Williams joined the show to talk about their upcoming event on Thursday, October 05, 2017, at Texas Tech's Free Market Institute.

Dr. Williams is a syndicated columnist, Professor of Economics at George Mason University, and author of many books, including American Contempt for Liberty.

Dr. Williams talked about the founding values of the United States, the Bill of Rights, and the heavy burden that is on American citizens to maintain liberty in the country. Williams said, "If liberty dies in America, it will dead in all places for all times, and that's an awesome responsibility that we have in our country to maintain liberty."

Hasty asked Williams about the difference between the Second Amendment guarantee of the right to own firearms, versus the claim from liberals to the "right" for everyone to have 'free' healthcare. Williams explained,

The only way that the government can give one American citizen one dollar, is to first take it through intimidation, threats and coercion, from some other American. Now, that's not moral, that's nothing more than legalized theft. I believe in helping one's fellow man in need, helping one's fellow man in need by reaching into one's own pockets to do so is praiseworthy and laudable. Helping one's fellow man in need by reaching into somebody else's pockets to do so is worthy of condemnation. And for the Christians among us, we should keep in mind that when God gave Moses the commandment, "Thou shalt not steal," He did not mean though shalt not steal unless you got a majority vote in the United States Congress.

The event is free, and takes place on Thursday, October 05, 2017 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m in the Allen Theater located in the Student Union Building. Dr. Williams will be available prior to the program for book signing from 5:15-5:45 PM in the courtyard.
