The college football season is currently hanging in the balance after a meeting between Power 5 schools over the weekend. Even after all of the scheduling changes made in the last two months, the Big Ten and the Pac 12 are reportedly going to cancel the fall football season.

A report by ESPN.com says that the Big Ten "wanted to gauge" if other conferences in the Power Five would cancel if they did. That was over the weekend. Now, Monday morning, news is trickling out of the Big Ten that a vote was held, and 12 of the 14 teams have voted to cancel the 2020 football season.

According to sports radio host Dan Patrick, the Big Ten will official cancel the season Tuesday morning, August 11th.

Nebraska and Iowa? Could they join the Big 12 as emergency members? Would they want to jeopardize their standing in the Big Ten conference for a chance to play in 2020.

Patrick discussed the rest of the Power Five conferences beyond the Big Ten as well. The Pac 12 is also planning to cancel (no surprise), the Big 12 and ACC are on the fence and the SEC is playing at any cost.

"The Big Ten and Pac 12 will cancel their football seasons tomorrow," Patrick said. "The ACC and the Big 12 are on the fence. The SEC is trying to get a delay to have teams join them. The SEC is looking at exclusive TV contracts."

It was always going to be the SEC trying to rally the teams to have a season. In the ACC, it seems like the league will do what Clemson wants to do. In the Big 12, it's really hard to peg because the biggest voice in the conference is the University of Texas. If it's just up to them, I wouldn't be surprised if the decision was to cancel.

There has been a shift in recent years, though. Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor and, obviously, Oklahoma have a larger voice in the conference than they did a decade ago.

If it comes down to a wild west college football season outside the purview of the NCAA, could the Big 12 add Nebraska and Iowa for the season and match up with the SEC and ACC in some sort of postseason?
