Monday is the final day of June and as we turn the page into July in West Texas we are normally getting ready for triple digit heat and bone dry conditions, but this year appears to be a little different.

At least for a few days.

A Rainy and "Cooler" Start to July in Lubbock

In Texas, we are used to dealing with hot weather in June and July, and so far in the Lubbock area, it hasn't been too bad. Sure there have been a few hot days, but overall, we have all seen and felt worse in Lubbock. And on Monday we will end the month with high temperatures in the mid 80's to low 90's and a chance of thunderstorms in the evening according to the National Weather Service as of Sunday night.

On Tuesday, July 1 the forecast calls for a 70% chance of rain with highs in the upper 70's to upper 80's. I don't know about you, but that sounds like a great start to July. Temperatures could remain in the upper 80's for highs though Thursday and possibly even on Friday, Independence Day.

Will it Rain on Independence Day in Lubbock?

It's still too early to say with any certainty whether or not it will rain on the 4th of July. The good news? Temperatures appear as though they will range from the upper 80's to low 90's. So your cookout should be pretty comfortable compared to previous years. The chance of rain right now is around 20% which means your outdoor plans should be fine for the most part, but pay attention to what is happening. A stray storm or two can't be ruled out and by Friday, the rain chances could increase or even go away.

Enjoy your Independence Day and stay safe. And enjoy the non-triple degree heat while you can. It's Texas. It will get hotter.
