An Abilene High School student is this winner of this year's 19th Congressional District Art Competition. Congressman Randy Neugebauer (R- Lubbock) made the announcement earlier today.

“I am happy to announce that Miss Beckie Schneller, a senior at Abilene High School, has won this year’s Congressional Art Competition for the 19th District of Texas. Her winning oil painting, entitled ‘So Small,’ clearly shows Beckie’s talent, and is representative of the kind of aptitude that exists in every part of our district. I always enjoy seeing it first-hand.

“Beckie’s painting will hang in the Cannon Tunnel for visitors from around the United States and the world to view as they walk toward the Capitol. I want to thank each student who submitted artwork, and I look forward to watching them continue to showcase their artistic talents in the future.”

The Congressional Art Competition has been held every year since 1982.  According to the U.S. House, more than 650,000 high school students have participated since 1982. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual Awards Ceremony in Washington, DC.
