Clayton Beeter Drafted After the 2nd Round of MLB Draft

Clayton Beeter came to Texas Tech and redshirted as a freshman while rehabbing through a Tommy John surgery. Beeter then charged into his second season, closing games for the Red Raiders. He finished the season with 8 saves and 40 strikeouts in 21 appearances.

In his redshirt sophomore season, he found command as a starter and cut his walk rate significantly while still striking out 33 batters in 20 innings over four starts.

The draft analysts had Beeter as a first-rounder and mentioned surprise when he wasn't drafted in the opening round. Then, he dropped through the second-round before landing with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the competitive balance round (in between the 2nd and 3rd rounds) with the 66th pick overall in the MLB draft.

David Collier mentions on Twitter that Beeter is the third-highest all-time Red Raider pitcher taken in the MLB Draft.

Beeter is the first Red Raider draft pick for the Dodgers since 2016, when the team grabbed Chandler Eden in the 25th round.
