Bat With Rabies Located in Southwest Lubbock
On Thursday, Lubbock Animal Services confirmed that a bat that was found in southwest Lubbock tested positive for rabies.
The bat was found on Sunday, August 18th having seizures and was taken to the South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. LAS was contacted later for assistance.
The bat died overnight between the 18th and 19th, according to KAMC News.
LAS also says that two dogs, which were not vaccinated for rabies, were exposed to the bat. Both have since been quarantined and will remain that way for 90 days.
Rabies is a deadly virus that can be transmitted to humans through the saliva of an infected animal. Anyone who believes they may have been exposed to a rabid animal is urged to seek immediate medical help.
