In an interview for KFYO’s public service program, This Week in Lubbock, Shawn Byrd, the shelter supervisor for the city’s animal services department, talked about an increase in the number of animals being abandoned.

“The economy right now is not doing well.  We’ve seen a lot more of what we call owner-surrender animals.  That’s where the owners bring us the animals and say, ‘I can’t take care of them.’  They surrender the animal to us.  In the last few months, we’ve seen a lot more of those.”

You can hear the entire interview at 6 a.m. Sunday on KFYO.
