The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man accused of murdering two people over Halloween weekend.

Mark Anthony Bethel (53) is being charged with two counts of murder.

Around 9:20 p.m. on Halloween a shots fired call in the 8500 block of Ash Avenue was reported to Police. The caller informed police of his location and indicated that he may have been shot before the call was disconnected and communication was lost.

First responders searched the scene but were unable to discover the caller or the true location of the accident.

Shortly before midnight that Halloween Saturday, the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a vehicle fire on E. 19th St., around 1.5 miles east of Loop 289.

When police arrived on the scene they discovered there was a body inside the vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames. The victim's identity was released by the LSO earlier this week, as Shawn Summers.

While on the scene, police noticed the vehicle was riddled with bullet holes and linked the vehicle to the shots fired call from earlier in the night.

The second murder charge slapped to Bethel, stems from human remains that were discovered in a small body of water off CR 3600 and East CR 7300.

The remains were called in to police on Sunday, November 1, by an unidentified source.

It is believed the remains belong to that of a white Hispanic female in the age range of 35-50 years old, with dark hair and multiple tattoos.

Bethel is being held in the Lubbock County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bond.
