A Lubbock Woman Arrested After Trying to Unlawfully get her Child

A Lubbock woman has been arrested for impersonating a public servant after her child was taken away. KAMC news reported that 39-year-old Haley Barber had her child taken away, along with the custody of the child, by Child Protective Services. That child was taken by Child Protective Services and then placed in to the care of Barber’s mother. Barber had a warrant issued in August after an incident in which Barber could be seen on footage of a doorbell camera just outside of her mother’s home.

In the footage can be seen wearing a jacket with what could clearly be seen as a seal for Juvenile Justice Center of Lubbock. Police were called and asked Barber why she was there and Barber replied that she was there to take a child from the home.

This was not the first instance of Barber trying to use false means to get back her child. Barber previously forged government records to try to unlawfully get custody of the child and also filed a document with Lubbock County to make it appear as if she owned her own law firm, named Jordan Utley Law, back in 2020. Investigators did state that the forged documents were an attempt into intimidating Child Protective Services in the stopping the investigation on Barber.

Barber's mother did tell investigators that she was afraid that her daughter would attempt to abduct the child from her custody and then flee with the child and go into hiding. Barber was charged with eight different charges such as Impersonating a Public Servant, Criminal Trespassing, Criminal Trespassing of Habitation/Shelter, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Fraudulent Use/Possession of Identifying Information Under 5 Items, and three separate charges of Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle. As per the publishing of this article Barber remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a $55,003 bond.
