Xcel Energy Warns of Another Customer Scam

Xcel Energy is warning of a new customer scam.

Xcel has received reports from customers about a new scam targeting customers in the Texas-New Mexico service area.

The scam involves customers receiving calls by people claiming to represent Xcel and indicating the customers’ electric service is soon to be disconnected.

The scammers then instruct customers to buy a Green Dot pre-pay VISA cards and call a phone number provided by the scammers, then directed to another phone number where card information is obtained and the value of the card is drained.

This scam typically targets Hispanic customers in the Xcel service area and is perpetrated by callers who may speak Spanish.
